Centre for Autism India (CAI) is a non-governmental charitable organization registered under the government of India Act . CAI has been working among children with developmental disabilities since 2004. In the global perspective, Centre for disease Control 2013, estimates that in every 50 school children diagnosed with ASD- there is an 1.16% increase. India’s population of more than one billion, the second largest in the world is the home of 10 million people with autism and other disabilities, showing rapid increase over the last few years. . Hence this is an area that needs research, support and further action

Statistics indicate that there are over two million people with autism in our country. Experts opine that out of 200 newborns, at least one child is found to be autistic. The rights and privileges of these special people who are isolated from the real world has been a matter of concern and debate by the National Trust and Rehabilitation Council of India.
Our Concerns
In the state of Kerala, the number of autism affected is increasing by leaps and bounds, but a clear picture is unavailable. The reason being lack of constructive and evidence based studies. Main areas of concern:
- Lack of early intervention
- General unawareness
- Limitations of Autism institutions and movements
- Alienation of affected parents
- Lack of trained teachers
- Absence of a strong network

Our Activities And Programmes
Collecting data on children and adults with autism, MR, Cerebral Palsy and other specially challenged sections at the grassroots level. Conducting training and awareness classes for special school teachers, parents, health workers, volunteers and youth in general. Initiating early intervention by organising medical camps. Facilitating various types of therapies for children with autism. Organising seminars, workshops and cultural events to enhance social awareness about the rights and privileges, and also the problems faced by the mentally challenged. Strengthening parents's networks and fellowships Ensuring legal and social redressal for human rights violations, torture and alienation against our specially challenged brethren.
